Featured Exclusive this week: Clubfeet

It’s time to bring back some of the love and good synth-pop feel of the 80’s. All of you recovering newavers out there from back in the day, time to turn the page to the next level and it’s coming out of Australia. The Melbourne trio known, Club Feet can deliver good feeling melodies, fun lyrics and tie it all together with a bit of tongue and cheek.

The band consists of Cohen, Cooper and Roberts. Their new release “Gold on Gold” released on Plant Music offers 12 amazing gems such as, “Edge of Extremes”, “Teenage Suicide” and our favorite this week “Say Something”. There was an immediate love for “Say Something” especially when we found out it was a cover of the Britpop band James’ track.
Expect great things from this talented trio, here at BZ we only wish we would have found out about them sooner!

Julian Lennon’s polar pick this week: Thom Yorke

Yes it is true “The Eraser” debuted back in 2006 by Thom Yorke, as his debut solo album. He later said it wasn’t a solo album because Radiohead was not breaking up. So it doesn’t mean you can’t go back to something that was ahead of it’s time. Revisiting this release the music industry has still not caught up to Thom.
‘The Eraser’ was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize (2007) and for a Grammy - Best Alternative Music Album. Critically the reception for this album was favorable, and most of those writers are still trying to play catch up or most likely dogging something else, because when you don’t understand something it is natural to turn your nose up rather than admit you don’t get it.

Featured Exclusive this week: AM & Shawn Lee

Celestial Electric, the first-ever collaboration by AM & Shawn Lee, marks the launch of a timely musical partnership that’s more than the sum of its already formidable parts. Although both artists are already well-established for their own work, their audacious new set finds these two sonic iconoclasts joining forces to create music that’s distinctly adventurous, yet effortlessly accessible and emotionally resonant. The project marks a creative milestone for both artists, offering timeless, deeply compelling music that showcases the duo’s remarkable creative chemistry.
Celestial Electric finds L.A.-based indie-pop auteur AM and London-based groovemaster/experimentalist Shawn Lee pooling their talents to create a unique brand of electro-soul that achieves seamless pop perfection, while mining a startlingly broad array of stylistic influences. (You best know Shawn Lee as the award winning video game composer for Bully, for his Shawn Lee’s Ping Pong Orchestra, and his Clutchy Hopkins/ Bei Bei/ Princess Superstar projects.) The resulting blend of heartfelt, warmly melodic songcraft and vivid, inventive soundscapes underlines the artists’ abiding love for all manner of vintage genres, encompassing pop, soul, funk, jazz, Brazilian tropicalia, Turkish psychedelia, and soundtracks and library music from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s.

Julian Lennon’s polar pick this week: GUSHI & RAFFUNK
“Born even before any thought, MUSIC has filled our atmosphere.” She, who comes from the southern half of the world and he, who comes from the northern half instead… two hemispheres, two points, two souls making a unique World. GUSHI & RAFFUNK, both of them musicians, have got together to bring this project into life. Destiny does the rest…

GUSHI - a.k.a. Mary F (leading and backing voices, acoustic guitar) was born and raised in Buenos Aires. Musically influenced by traditional Argentine folk music since her childhood, she has step on several stages all around the country as a soloist or as part of a whole. In 2004 she collaborates with Daniel Di Napoli on the realization of a TV series soundtrack for ON TV Productions.
RAFFUNK (guitars, voice and programming) was born and raised in Italy. He moved to Buenos Aires in 1995 where he worked as a DJ and began to produce electronic music. In 2004, GUSHI & RAFFUNK met in Buenos Aires to work on a production released by Musicbrokers and from then onwards they decided to get together and build their own project. They currently live and compose their music in Italy.

Featured Exclusive this week: “P’Taah”

Notable producer, Chris Brann, responsible for the ground breaking king-of-their-time productions of Wamdue Project, Wamdue Kids, and Ananda Project, comes to the electronic front line once again with another album by his brain stepchild, P’Taah. Already with three P’Taah artist albums under his belt on Ubiquity Records, the last one was released in 2004. It gained wide acceptance in many different crossover Jazz scenes, with his albums maintaining the consistency to sell through over long periods of time.
This is not your typical mainstream, trendy, flash in the pan project, but one that’s set alongside musical genre bending, innovation and musical creativity, never being stamped with an expiration date. P’Taah now returns to Street King with a brilliant inspiration filled with Future Chill, House, Fusion Neo Jazz, Downtempo, BreakBeat, Drum n’ Bass, which could quite possibly be reminiscent of old 4Hero but with a 21st Century appeal. Featured tracks with special vocalists include: “The Cosmic Laws” feat. Monday Michiru, “Tears And Light” feat. Miho Hatori of Cibo Matto, “Fade Away” feat. Tiombe Lockhart, of the Platinum Pied Pipers, also offered as a bonus cut with the boogie down roller disco Silver City remix. Other stand out previously released singles, “Everything Is Naturally Free”, “Sun’s Departure and “This Is Imaginary” also offered with a Gramophonedzie Club Bonus Remix bringing some extra musical synergy to the collection.
It’s so hard to be truly original these days but if you are able to come up with unconditional concepts, melding of styles, stripped down vocals, put together and put together well, there’s no telling what brilliance will come to light. Maybe an album like this one? We’ll let you decide.
